Period Style Oak Four Poster Beds

There's nothing that surpasses the romanticism of a Tudor or Elizabethan oak four poster bed, particularly those with hand carved linenfold or parchemin panels, ornate tester ceilings and other 15th, 16th century and 17th century (Jacobean) decoration. Unfortunately, few actual examples survive in their original format. The Victorians loved to cut them into pieces and re-build them, often using components from other pieces of furniture, known in the trade as 'made up'. The other drawback is that old beds, even the Victorian versions, rarely suit modern mattress dimensions, particularly king and super-king sizes.

Which is where we come in. 

Numerous clients have come to us to capitalise on our renowned design, manufacturing and finishing expertise. In a bespoke made piece, we can eliminate the above drawbacks and, if nothing else, get round the aversion some of you may have, of sleeping in an old bed. Just too spooky!

Almost all the examples featured in this category have been custom made for our clients and range from simple plain panelled tester beds to lavishly carved 4-posters. Some have been adapted from the originals we've made, again to suit that clients particular requirements, and of course you'll have the opportunity to get us to add the odd personal touch.

As with all our beds, they dismantle for easy transportation and access up often tight and awkward staircases. If access is particularly tight, just let us know and we'll make sure to build it so you can get everything into your chosen bedroom.
