About Handmade Italian Pewter
Every single piece of our reproduction Italian pewter is exclusively handmade, from classical and period designs, using an alloy of tin with antimony and copper.
Unlike original antique pewter, there is no lead in these replica products. They fully comply with all EEC and USA requirements and are perfectly safe to use with food and liquids.
Our Italian pewter collection is authentically antiqued and available in two finishes: TRADITIONAL and BRIGHT.
TRADITIONAL has an opaque and moderately aged patina which, due to its softness and sobriety, imparts a different, warmer feeling than many other metals. Pewter opacifies very slowly and therefore requires almost no care. After being used to serve food or beverages traditional pewter can be simply rinsed with warm water and liquid soap. If light spots should appear after a period of time, they can be easily removed using steel wool or an extra-fine soapy wire wool.
BRIGHT has a polished finish, often used in past centuries and gives a more lively and sumptuous appearance, similar to solid silver. Bright pewter can be easily maintained by using simple polishing products, like cotton wool for silverware, which will return the original sheen. Pewter is a relatively soft metal and where scratches may develop from persistant use, this testifies that pewter objects are born, live and get old, in opposition to many modern soulless materials.
