Top detail of our clients 15th century style oak clamped-front chest. A good example of careful choice of oak board. On our Chalvington range bespoke furniture, we use full character grade oak, the degree of which varies from board to board. The piece shown in this photograph is fairly wide and would have originated from somewhere near the centre of the oak trunk, where the heartwood is prone to splitting, once cut and dried. Whilst such a piece may not be suitable for many applications, here it can be used to great authentic effect. Note also, the black staining around the old fashioned nails.
