Hand carved parchemin panel doors on oak livery cupboard

Hand carved parchemin, or 'parchment fold', panelled door on our clients' 16th century style oak livery cupboard. This form of decoration was often used on Medieval furniture, alongside early linenfold, and there are various theories as to how this design came into being. We do know that this enriched form, with its Gothic details, can be attributed to furniture before the middle of the 16th century. Note also, the hand-forged door hinges.
