Hand carved oak bed post finial, in a turned cup-and-cover design, popular on furniture during the Elizabethan period. The top (cover) section is carved into a series of bulbous mounds, called gadrooning. This style can also be seen arranged in a straight line, on tables and court cupboards, for example. The lower (cup) section has acanthus leaf carving. The colour shown here is our Chalvington range 'Old Flaxen' and the bed has been 'Medium Aged'.
