Hand carved parchemin panels

View of the tester ceiling of our Chalvington range hand carved four poster bed. The panels are called 'parchemin panels' or parchment-fold. This design originated during the first half of the 16th century and persisted for around a hundred years or so.

The four centre panels are 'enriched parchemin' and, because of the Gothic nature of the decoration, they would have most likely originated at the earlier end of the above time period. You can also see the medieval style punched decoration and moulded edges to the framework.
