James 1st period style oak extending dining table

Chalvington Oak Range

An oak extending dining table, with baluster turned legs. A bespoke piece, from our Chalvington range, this table is a replica of a 17th century James 1st period dining table. As well as the 'rising baluster and ring' turnings, which terminate with an attractive lambs tongue detail, other traditional features include moulded rails and an applied moulding that runs around the lower perimeter of the rails.

Note that the dimensions below (closed and with leaves extended) are our standard sizes for this table. These can be adjusted slightly, if need be, at little or no additional charge. We are happy to plot the table out in CAD (Computer Aided Design), along with sitters, and place in your room plan (we will need a sketch with dimensions), to work out the optimum size for you.

The photos on this page show the size 200cm closed, extending to 320cms x 96.5cm wide, and very lightly aged in our 'Warm Chestnut' colour. It was also made shorter than our standard 76cm height, to accommodate our clients lower-than-normal-seat country chairs.

For essential reading on choosing your ideal dining table width and height please see: A Guide to Choosing the Ideal Dining Table Width and What is the ideal Dining Table and Chair Height? These useful articles have been described on Google+ as 'an excellent resource to help you think through dining room needs' and a 'great planning tool for those that space is a concern'.

The photo below shows the table closed, but still with an adequate overhang at each end. This is a slight deviation from being historically correct, but is a worthwhile compromise to allow end sitters to sit comfortably.
