"I'll be completing the Trading Standards questionnaire - will be top marks in all departments!" Sylvia, Hants
Just one, of a number of exquisite timber framed houses, tucked away down the leafy country lanes of Sussex. A particularly atmospheric and fine example of a Wealden Hall House, in a stunning old brick paved courtyard setting.
This unique style of medieval oak construction is commonplace throughout our county, as well as Kent and Surrey. The Weald and Downland Open Air Museum has a wonderful example (Bayleaf Farmhouse), that's been rescued from certain demolition and reconstructed, in its original format, on their 50 acre site at Singleton, in West Sussex. The Clergy House, in Alfriston village (close to us), is also another superb example, owned by The National Trust and open to the public.
The one we've featured here has recently been sold. It was previously owned, for a number of years, by a well known rock musician, who was known to play, impromptu, in the local pub. Sussex is very much a favoured county for the rich and famous!
From a small boy at infant school, I've had a passion for early furniture and architecture, embracing the 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. I've spent almost three decades designing and making replica early oak furniture (and architectural woodwork)...with my own hands!
Nowadays, together with a team of highly skilled and equally passionate craftspeople, I use that valuable experience helping clients commission, from our company, the very best in bespoke oak reproduction furniture, with a particular emphasis on personal service.
