Finishing Ageing

Our reproduction furniture is normally supplied, as standard, with a level of premature surface ageing that represents reasonable wear and tear over several centuries of use. In other words, how a valued original would, by and large, be perceived. 

Alternatively, you can have your furniture, lightly aged, basically with just the edges softened and the natural characteristics of English/European oak showing through. 

The third option is heavily distressed, which would signify a relatively long and/or hard life. This is eminently suitable for much earlier Medieval style furniture, or where you're really after the workaday country look. 

Please indicate your choice when ordering. There is normally no additional charge for the above three standard options. 

Occasionally,  we get asked to make our furniture 'As New', in pristine condition. For this option we would have to specially buy in, more expensive, clean joinery grade oak, rather than use our normal character grade, which is more suitable for our reproduction work. We may also change how we go about making, including laminating thinner boards and the use of veneered boards (we have our own veneer press and use thick veneers), to ensure a clean, blemish free surface and movement stability.There would be a surcharge for this, so please enquire.
